The British Asian Trust has named Hitan Mehta OBE as its new Chief Executive, marking a major leadership transition after a decade of growth for the organization.
A Leadership Shift
The Board of Trustees announced Mehta’s appointment after Richard Hawkes OBE stepped down following 10 transformative years. The Trust thanked Hawkes for expanding its reach and impact across South Asia.
The Board stated that the Trust has improved the lives of more than 18 million people under Hawkes’ leadership. It wished him success in his future endeavors.
Mehta’s Longstanding Role
Mehta helped establish the British Asian Trust in 2007 as its first employee. Over 18 years, he has worked closely with His Majesty King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, Mehta partnered with Hawkes to turn the Trust into one of the most innovative and respected international charities working across South Asia.
Global Expansion Efforts
Mehta played a central role in the Trust’s global growth. He strengthened its presence in the UK, South Asia, the Gulf region, and recently North America.
He also led efforts to engage the global South Asian diaspora. His work helped build powerful networks across philanthropy, business and finance.
Statements on the Transition
Hawkes said he felt proud of the organization’s progress over the past decade. He expressed confidence in Mehta’s ability to lead the Trust forward.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mehta said it was an honour to take charge at a crucial moment for the Trust and the wider diaspora community.
Looking Ahead
The British Asian Trust is entering an important new phase. With Mehta as CEO, the organisation aims to strengthen its mission and broaden its global partnerships.
