Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Sunday reaffirmed that Pakistan would respond swiftly to any act of aggression against its sovereignty.

Remarks at Luncheon Hosted for Jordan’s King

He spoke to Daily Jang during a luncheon held in honour of Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the President’s House. While raising his finger toward the sky, he said, “I did not lead Pakistan to victory, Allah did.”

He added that Pakistan’s success in May was a special blessing. According to him, Pakistan’s soldiers fight with faith and dedication.

May Conflict Recalled

The confrontation in May resulted in Pakistan downing seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft. The clash followed India’s missile strikes on May 5 and 6, which caused civilian and security personnel casualties in Pakistan.

India claimed the strikes were linked to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, IIOJK, which killed 28 people. Pakistan rejected the allegation, stating that New Delhi provided no evidence.

Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos

Pakistan responded by targeting more than 20 Indian military sites. The retaliatory action, named “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” continued until both countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 10. The United States mediated the agreement.

Promotion to Field Marshal

Following the conflict, the federal government promoted General Munir to the rank of Field Marshal. The decision recognised his leadership during the crisis.

Commitment to Peace and Security

The army chief reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace. However, he stated that any aggression would receive a firm and immediate response. He also cited Quranic verses, saying that faith empowers believers to overcome stronger opponents. He noted that Pakistan demonstrated this resolve in May.

As attendees congratulated him, he urged them to pray for Pakistan’s progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to performing his duties “as commanded by Allah.”

New Role as Chief of Defence Forces

Munir’s comments came days after the federal government confirmed that his tenure would restart under his new post as Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). During a National Assembly session on November 13, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the CDF would serve a five-year term from the date of appointment.

The recently passed amendment to the Army Act states that the COAS, who concurrently holds the CDF position under Article 243 of the Constitution, will begin the new tenure from the date of notification.https://globiscope.com
