Trump Administration Launches

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has officially launched the “Trump Gold Card” visa programme. The initiative offers non-US citizens a fast-track pathway to live in the United States — but at a steep cost.

Applications Open With Heavy Fees

The new website, Trumpcard.gov, allows applicants to submit requests through an “Apply Now” button. The process begins with a $15,000 fee paid to the Department of Homeland Security for expedited processing.

After the background screening, applicants must make a $1 million “contribution” or “gift” to qualify for the visa. The programme functions similarly to a Green Card, granting the right to live and work in the United States.

Trump Says Gold Card Is “More Powerful” Than a Green Card

President Donald Trump described the visa as superior to the standard Green Card. “Basically it’s a Green Card, but much better. Much more powerful,” he told reporters. Trump added that the programme would attract “great people.”

Thousands Already Registered

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said 10,000 people pre-registered during the early access period. He expects the number to grow significantly. He also projected that the programme could generate billions of dollars in revenue for the US Treasury.

Lutnick argued that Gold Card holders would benefit the American economy. He also claimed, without providing evidence, that average Green Card holders earn less and rely more on public support.

A Counterbalance to Trump’s Hardline Immigration Policies

The administration has taken strict measures against both legal and illegal immigration. Deportations have increased sharply. Furthermore, new barriers were introduced for people seeking lawful entry.

The Gold Card programme appears to serve as a revenue-generating counterweight to those restrictions. Trump often compares it to his tariff strategy, claiming both approaches raise substantial funds for the government.

Corporate Version Also Introduced

The programme includes a corporate option. Companies can secure expedited visas for employees through a $2 million contribution per worker.
